Hockinson School District:

2019 Levy Proposal Outreach

Passing a levy in a community with tax fatigue

Hockinson School District’s operations and tech levies were up for renewal, but changes to education funding made at the state level were making the message confusing. Many voters were fed up with property tax increases after the recent statewide hike, and didn’t understand why the district still needed a levy.

Strengthening the message

The League worked hard to communicate clearly, but both levy votes failed after the February vote. The team put their heads together and decided that only a straight-forward, no-nonsense message about what the funding cuts would mean for the district would get the support of the majority of voters. In the April election, the crucial operations levy passed to the relief of everyone!
